Yao Jianxiang, aged 77, has spent years wandering about every corner of the ancient Sijie Block to record its changes with tens of thousands of photos, earning her the title of "Sijie Protector".

"Although it cost me all my savings, I still believe that what I'm doing is meaningful," said Yao. "I hope that my photographs will inspire others in my hometown to protect, spread and promote the history and culture of Nantong."

The photographer not only records the block's lanes and ancient buildings, but also the marvelous craftsmanship demonstrated by the sophisticated decorations.
