Qidong, a county-level city of Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province, received this year's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier at the distribution and transfer terminal of Guanghui Energy Comprehensive Logistics Development Co Ltd on May 9.

The carrier unloaded 67,688.63 metric tons of LNG (approximately 153,700 cubic meters), enough to meet the monthly gas consumption of 6.27 million households.

According to a higher-up at Guanghui Energy Comprehensive Logistics Development Co Ltd, the distribution and transfer terminal plans to receive eight LNG carriers this year, totaling 1.28 million cu m of LNG.

As the 12th LNG receiving station along China's coast, the second one in Jiangsu province and the first privately funded LNG terminal in China, the Qidong Guanghui Energy LNG distribution and transfer terminal has put five LNG storage tanks with a total capacity of 620,000 cu m into operation.

Another 200,000-cu-m LNG storage tank is scheduled to be completed and put into operation at the end of November, and the total tank capacity of the receiving station will increase to 820,000 cu m, enough to provide a more stable LNG emergency peak regulating gas source for East China and ensure ample market supply, strong emergency peak regulating and meet industrial gas demand.
