Haimen district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has made significant progress in its city construction in recent years.

Specifically, the district has made great strides in building a modern transportation network, with the construction of the Haimen-Taicang Tunnel and the high-speed railways along the Yangtze River starting on Sept 7 and Sept 28, 2022, respectively.

The tunnel and the railway, which are designed to function as channels for connecting Haimen and Shanghai, will make it possible to arrive in Shanghai within 40 minutes, according to authorities.

The district has also been ramping up efforts to build its new town in the northern part and renovate its old urban areas in the southern part.

Authorities are expediting the construction of public facilities, such as schools, hospitals, and parks, to build a new urban area, which will significantly expand the district’s urban space.

The local government has been channeling more resources towards renovating its old urban areas, including sewage treatment, ecological restoration, and infrastructure upgrading.

In addition, authorities have been making efforts to improve its infrastructure, including upgrading traffic lights, installing guardrails, and building public parking lots. The district added 1,532 parking lots in 2022.
