Authorities of Haimen district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province have been making efforts to advance its high-quality development in recent years.

For example, authorities shut down Linjiang town's 32 chemical enterprises that were located along the Yangtze River from 2019 to 2021.

The relocation of the chemical companies provides more space for the district's emerging industries such as new energy industry, said a local official.

The town, which launched four projects managed by academicians, is currently home to more than 200 companies engaged in fields like biomedicine and electronic information.

General Lithium Corporation, a unicorn enterprise, is one of the beneficiaries of the move. It will invest 3 billion yuan ($445.39 million) to build a battery grade lithium carbonate facility, which is expected to generate sales of more than 2 billion yuan.

The district also channeled more resources towards upgrading parks and green places along the Yangtze River, building an ecological landscape belt there.
