Qidong experiences high-quality development

Qidong, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has obtained high-quality development over the past decade.

The city's GDP rose from 58.91 billion yuan ($8.26 billion) in 2012 to 134.59 billion yuan in 2021, with an average annual growth rate of about 10 percent over the past decade. The city's per capita GDP in 2021 was 139,500 yuan, 2.28 times that of 2012.

In 2021, the city's industrial taxable sales reached 128.4 billion yuan, 2.5 times that of 2012.

The modern service industry has made significant progress. Its taxable sales reached 84.23 billion yuan in 2021, 2.8 times that of 2012.

In addition, in the past decade, the industrial structure has been continuously optimized, with the ratio of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries adjusted from 10.4:52.0:37.6 in 2012 to 6.6:48.8:44.6 in 2021.

Leveraging the advantages of the city's large ports, deep waterways and well-developed road network, the scale of port-centered industries grew in recent years. From January to August, the taxable sales of port-centered industries such as marine engineering ship reloading, new energy and equipment and port machinery, totaled 39.81 billion yuan, up 1.9 percent year-on-year.

The taxable sales of the city's two emerging industries, namely the electronic information and semiconductor industry and the life and health industry, reached 10.01 billion yuan from January to August, a year-on-year growth of 16.2 percent.
