Shizhuang town in Rugao, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has invested more than 10 million yuan ($1.44 million) to renovate its historic buildings on Beida Street in recent years.

Spanning 595 meters, Beida Street has seven historic buildings on both its sides.

One of the buildings is the Min Family's former residence, which was built in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and housed Min Naida, China's father of electronic computer, and Min Naiben, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Due to good maintenance, the grey bricks and eaves of the veranda in the former residence still preserve traces of the past.

The Zhang Family's two-story wooden building, also built in the late Qing Dynasty, has been renovated many times and its main structure is no longer made of wood.

Shizhuang town repaired the building in 2018 and restored its refined and delicate building style.

Built in the late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the grey stone steps, gate piers, and eaves of the 300-square-meter Tang Family's former residence are still well preserved.

In 2019, the residence was listed as a cultural relic site under provincial protection and renovation of the building is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
