Haimen welcomes harvest of summer grain

The harvest area of summer grain in Haimen district, Nantong, Jiangsu province was 319,500 mu (21,300 hectares), generating 76.55 million kilograms of grain, a year-on-year increase of 3.1 percent, according to official statistics.
As of the end of 2021, the district's high-standard farmland had reached 497,000 mu, accounting for 72.4 percent of the total cultivated land area in the district.

This year, the district has been focusing on improving the efficiency of land through the development of agricultural science and technology and equipment upgrading.
To improve the comprehensive mechanization level of wheat cultivation and harvesting, 114 rice transplanters, 309 plant protection machines, 400 combine-harvesters, and 542 large and medium-sized tractors above 80 horsepower were put into use. The comprehensive mechanization rate of wheat cultivation and harvesting in the whole district reached 99 percent.
In addition, to stimulate farmers' enthusiasm for growing grain, the local government has offered various subsidies, such as subsidies for the purchase and application of agricultural machinery, subsidies for farmers growing corn and soybeans and subsidies for crop rotation and fallow.
Meanwhile, the district has invested 20 million yuan ($2.95 million) to support the high-quality development of agriculture and rural areas.
