Spanning eight provinces, the Grand Canal is the largest and oldest of its kind in the world and connects five rivers – the Haihe River, Yellow River, Huaihe River, Yangtze River, and Qiantang River – in China.
In 2014, the Grand Canal was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Grand Canal Painting is 135 meters in length and 3 meters in height and was created by 15 artists from the seven provinces along the canal.
The painting consists of two parts, with the first part depicting the digging and operation of the canal and the second portraying the natural landscapes on both sides of the canal in four seasons.
