Zong Yuhua, an inheritor of redwood carving, a Nantong intangible cultural heritage item, has been busy making works for the upcoming 20th National Congress of the CPC.
The craftsman has completed two redwood carving works for the conference so far.
One of them features several cows in different poses representing the builders of the new China. Another work consists of Yanhe Bridge, Yan'an Pagoda, Jinggang Mountain, and the Red Boat symbolizing the CPC as its first national congress was convened on a red boat 101 years ago.

In 2016, Zong was recognized as a senior arts and crafts artist in China and made the list of Nantong's intangible cultural heritage inheritors the following year.
To promote the traditional handicraft, Zong has established a redwood carving base in the city and cooperates with vocational schools, including Rugao Secondary Vocational School, to train redwood carvers.
Over the past 20 years, Zong has cultivated nearly 70 redwood carvers and helped establish more than 20 redwood processing enterprises.
