In recent years, in order to boost its rural revitalization, Sunzhuang village in Rudong county – administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – has worked to improve its conditions, with the focus on creating specialized industries, a beautiful environment and an attractive culture.

Developing specialized rural ventures is seen as key to bringing prosperity to Sunzhuang. The net profit from growing tomatoes, for example, is expected to top 500,000 yuan ($74,300) a year. The village has also established a high-quality vegetable base covering 54.4 hectares and cultivated specialty products such as leeches, snails, water bamboo and others to diversify its agricultural economy.

Morever, Sunzhuang has invested 12.5 million yuan in introducing garbage classifications, comprehensive river regulations, road upgrades and other things to improve its ecological system and environment. Having built two cold storage facilities with a capacity of 7,500 metric tons, the village is dedicated to developing an agricultural sector that integrates production, storage and processing.

In addition, Sunzhuang village has conducted in-depth research on local history and culture in recent years, to integrate cultural and agricultural tourism. So far, it has invested about 8 million yuan to build scenic spots such as the Village History Museum, the Longevity Square, the Forest Space and the Leisure Park. These all aim to help the village become a resort that integrates cultural communications, forest amusements and youth education.
