The multipurpose ship for wind power construction on the sea, the first of its kind in China, which can function both as a freight vessel and a hoister, was delivered in Haimen district, Nantong, Jiangsu province on June 29, according to local media reports.
The ship, called "Wu Dong De", was constructed by the Haimen base of China Merchants Industry Holding Co Ltd and delivered one month in advance.
It is 182 meters long, 46 meters wide and 15 meters deep, with a deck with an open area of 6,200 square meters and a loading capacity of over 10,000 metric tons.
It can carry up to four sets of 2,000-ton wind-driven generators and its transportation capacity is equivalent to a 30,000-ton deck carrier. Its maximum lifting capacity is 3,000 tons.
It will operate in Guangdong and Fujian waters in July.
Ship and offshore engineering is one of five key industrial clusters in Nantong. At present, there are 322 enterprises above designated size involved in the industry, which possess the manufacturing capabilities of various mainstream transport ships and engineering ships.
Last year, the number of ships completed accounted for 16.7 percent of Jiangsu's total and 7 percent of the national total. The scale of the city's marine equipment industry ranks first in Jiangsu province and accounts for about 25 percent of the national total.
