The sales of seven large supermarkets in Haimen district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, totaled 18.14 million yuan ($2.71 million) during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday that ended on June 5, up 20.5 percent compared with May Day holiday.

In supermarkets, sales of cigarettes, alcohol, beverages, zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) and salted duck eggs increased significantly during the holiday.

Meanwhile, promotional activities in the shopping malls boosted consumption of clothing, gold and silver jewelry, cosmetics and food and beverages.

In addition, Haimen dealers of the Sanhe Automobile Association sold a total of 231 vehicles during the three-day holiday.

To further stimulate consumption, the district will next launch eight promotional activities.
