​Nantong's first county-level biography published

The Biography of Haimen, which records the thousand-year-old history and humanistic spirit of Haimen, was officially released to the public on May 14, according to local media reports.

The publication of The Biography of Haimen is meant to help preserve and promote local history and culture.

The book is written by Zhou Shikang, honorary chairman of the Jiangsu Journalists' Association and former executive deputy minister of the Publicity Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.

It took the author five years to complete the book, which is about 630,000 words in length and is divided into 21 special topics and 72 chapters, recounting important events and people in Haimen's thousands of years of history. It is also a vivid record of the historical changes that have occurred on the north side of the Yangtze River Estuary.

In order to preserve detailed versions of precious historical documents and provide references for later generations, 15 ancient maps of Haimen were printed at the end of the book. A list of major events was also compiled to record the historical features and changes that occurred in Haimen and its surrounding coastal areas.

The Biography of Haimen, which highlights Haimen's history, prominent historical figures and unique folk customs, will make the city more attractive to outsiders, noted Guo Xiaomin, Party chief of Haimen.
