In the face of the resurge in the COVID-19 outbreak, the county-level city of Hai'an – administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – recently took action, in the process receiving strong support from selfless local enterprises.
One of the more notable was Jiangsu Newsega Home Textile High Technology Co Ltd, which at its own expense had its new apartment building renovated and transformed into a facility for epidemic prevention and control.
Costing some 60 million yuan ($9.4 million), the building started construction in 2019, to improve the living conditions of the company's employees. With a total floor space of 18,500 square meters, it has 300 rooms.
After renovation, each room is well-equipped with sanitary facilities, internet access and home appliances. Hot water is available 24 hours a day.
The company signed up to settle in the Chang'an Textile Park – located in the Hai'an Economic and Technological Development Zone – in 2018. Since then, it has expanded into a large textiles manufacturer integrating weaving, home textiles production, printing and dyeing.
In April 2021, it started trial operations in the zone, generating revenue that year of 140 million yuan.
"In Hai'an, enterprises only need to focus on their own affairs, because the government takes the initiative to solve all their problems," said Wu Yonghui, chairman of Newsega.
"It made me feel happy to help ease the government's burden, especially during this special period," Wu added.
