The unmanned farm in Xin'an village, Haimen district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province started spring ploughing recently with the help of an automatic irrigation system and automatic rice transplanters, local media reported on March 21.

The farm includes a large-scale unmanned planting area of more than 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares). Agricultural machinery such as unmanned harvesters, unmanned tractors and unmanned plant protection machines are being used on the farm.

To automate the entire process and modernize agriculture, an intelligent agricultural big data platform has been established.

Technicians are able to remotely monitor farmland conditions through the big data platform, and learn about the soil, air temperature and humidity in real time.

In addition, the farm will build a cold chain logistics processing zone, agricultural products exhibition and sales zone and circular agricultural economic zone to form an entire industrial chain and develop a circular economy.

The agricultural products exhibition and sales area will build a multi-functional agricultural center integrating product display, quality traceability, live streaming and science and technology training.

The circular agricultural economic zone will build composting centers to realize the utilization of straw resources, produce liquid fertilizer and compost.
