As of 2021, the forest coverage rate of Haimen district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, was 23.79 percent, covering an area of 373,300 mu (24,886.67 hectares), according to the Jiangsu Forestry Bureau.

In recent years, Haimen has focused on afforestation, the landscaping of villages, and control of forest pests to expand green areas and maintain the stability of ecosystems.

Since 2019, Haimen district has been striving to improve ecological shelterbelts along its rivers. Over 2,500 mu of shelterbelts were added along rivers from 2019 to 2021.

Greening activities have been carried out in villages for the past few years. Various areas around houses and on the sides of roads have been fully used to plant trees, fruits, vegetables and crops. Green landscapes with rural characteristics have also been developed in villages.

In addition, the district has strengthened the monitoring of organisms harmful to forests through the placement of detection lamps, light trapping and investigation of the behavior of pests in garden plants.
