Rudong county – administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – has extended a pairing-assistance relationship it established with the Nanzheng district of Hanzhong city in Northwest China's Shaanxi province in 2017, in an effort to lift the district out of poverty.

In order to resolve the employment difficulties of Nanzheng's locals and the labor shortage in Rudong, the human resources departments of the two regions coordinated to carry out a point-to-point migrant worker exchange program.

Nineteen migrant workers from Nanzheng district arrived in Rudong on Feb 17 by chartered bus. "Due to the long distances between the two regions and the changing situation of the COVID-19 epidemic, the governments provided a chartered bus for us, bringing convenience and lightening our financial burdens," said a migrant worker from Nanzheng.

To seize this golden time for recruitment, the Rudong human resources and social security bureau made plans in advance.

At the end of last year, the department collected information on 1,495 available positions in 13 leading resident businesses and attended a recruitment event in Nanzheng, to promote Rudong's enterprises and to hand out employment information.

"Rudong and Nanzheng have a friendly pairing-assistance relationship. These years, we strengthened labor service cooperation with Nanzheng by various means, to help Nanzheng solve the problem of its surplus labor force and to ease the labor force shortage in Rudong," said Qin Xiong, an official from Rudong's HR department.

"Moving forward, we will continue to deepen the cooperation in the labor force according to the demands of Rudong's companies," Qin added.
