Officials from Rudong county – administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – announced 10 major public works projects for 2022 during the first session of the 18th Rudong County People's Congress, which concluded on Jan 14.

The essential details of these projects are as follows:

1. Health protection

The county's public health clinical emergency center will be completed and put into use; the construction of an emergency rescue and treatment ward for the COVID-19 epidemic and a nucleic acid test base will be completed; the goal of establishing "a public hospital in a town" will be pushed forward and automated external defibrillators will be equipped in the main public venues and crowded places in the county.

2. Education resources

The main structure of the teaching buildings of the relocated Some Senior High School in Jiangsu Province will be capped; air conditioners will be installed in the classrooms of Rudong's secondary and primary schools and kindergartens.

3. Environmental improvements

Construction of four sewage treatment areas covering 7.73 square kilometers in the county will be completed; 43 rivers will be dredged; 82 waterways in rural areas will be upgraded.

4. Rural revitalization

Some 6,666 hectares of high-quality farmland will be established; 25 bridges in rural areas will be built or upgraded and at least 260 kilometers of rural roads will be renovated.

5. Public safety improvements

The pipeline gas project in residential communities will be promoted; the renovation project of Yangkou-Xingren highway will be completed.

6. Social security strengthened

Long-term care for those with disabilities or Alzheimer's disease will be guaranteed; at least two regional service centers for senior citizens will be built.

7. Civilized city

Comprehensive improvements will be conducted in three old residential communities; the first phase of the flower market will be completed; the main building of the comprehensive vehicles service center will be capped.

8. Urban upgrade

At least 500,000 square meters of public green space will be added or renovated; two parks and two public urban green spaces will be created or renovated; 4,000 street lamps will be replaced with energy saving lamps; 800 5G base stations will be installed to achieve full coverage of 5G signals in the main urban area.

9. People-oriented government service improvements

The smart upgrading and renovation of the county's government services center will be completed; license registration self-service machines will be installed in 10 towns.

10. Cultural life upgrade

One hundred operas and intangible cultural heritage shows will be performed in rural areas; the protection and utilization project for the ruins of Guoqing Temple in Juegang town will be completed.
