Haimen district in Nantong, Jiangsu province raises 800,000 goats every year, making the goat industry a pillar industry of the district.

Haimen goats are well-known for their high-quality meat, skin and wool. Stewed Haimen goat meat with brown sauce is liked for its fat but non-greasy taste. Its skin is great for making high-grade leather products. The wool is elastic, making it great for making Chinese brush pens.

In recent years, the Haimen government has issued policies and increased investment to promote the development of the Haimen goat industry. The district now has 224 goat farms with more than 100 goats each, and 28 goat farms with more than 1,000 goats each.

In addition, Haimen has formed a complete goat industrial chain and has four goat slaughterhouses, four goat deep processing enterprises, and 100 catering enterprises producing 5,000 metric tons of stewed Haimen goat meat with brown sauce, reaching 462 million yuan ($72.64 million) in annual sales.
