The acceptance meeting for the new Xigangchi wharf at the Lyusi port area in Qidong – a county level city, in Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – was held on Dec 10.

The "2+2" wharf project – comprised of two 100,000-ton container terminals and two 100,000-ton general ones – got the green light and will come online on Dec 22, according to local media.

Co-constructed by the Nantong Port Group and the Lyusi Port Group, the project is seen as being a significant part of the Tongzhou Bay demonstration area, which is positioned as having a pivotal role in the Yangtze River Economic Belt development strategy.

Located at the south of the Xigangchi wharf in the Lyusi port area, it is projected to achieve an annual throughput of 20 million tons, including 1.4 million containers, after starting operations.

Construction began on June 28, 2020 and the main section of the first berth was finished on July 19 of the current year.

By the end of November this year, the infrastructure of the port area was completed – including the water engineering foundations, the pipe gallery for the storage yards and automatic port machinery.

Facilities such as quayside cranes, trucks and container area track cranes are all operated automatically, to an advanced level among nationwide coastal ports.
