The 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, also known as COP 15, was held in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province, on Oct 11-15.

At the opening ceremony of the Ecological Civilization Forum of the COP 15, 102 national model areas for ecological civilization construction were recognized and awarded. Tongzhou district was the only model in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province.

In recent years, centering on the philosophy of "environment first, green development", Tongzhou district has been striving to improve its urban and rural environment and people's quality of life.

In the first half of 2021, Tongzhou district made significant progress improving its quality of air and surface water.

To build a model area for ecological civilization construction, Tongzhou has established a management system led by heads of different levels, and formed a funding mechanism led by the government, operated by the market, and participated in by all society, to provide strong capital support for the creation of the model area.

Moving forward, Tongzhou district will strengthen the protection of the environment and promote the joint governance of the government, enterprises, and the general public to build a beautiful Tongzhou with a sound and livable environment and green development.
