In a move to expand its industry transformation and upgrading and create a hub for industrial innovation, the Tongzhou district of Nantong city – located in East China's Jiangsu province – on Oct 12 held a promotional event focusing on semiconductors industry cooperation and exchanges between it and South Korea.

Co-sponsored by the Nantong Commerce Bureau, the Tongzhou district government and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency – also known as KOTRA – the event reportedly attracted a great deal of interest.

It attracted the participation of representatives from the Republic of Korea consulate general in Shanghai city, the KOTRA Nanjing office, Korean and Chinese semiconductor enterprises, investment organizations and banks.

The Nantong Commerce Bureau and Tongzhou district both made presentations on their business environments.

The semiconductor is widely regarded as being the core of information technology industry development and its production is a strategic, fundamental and leading industry of great importance to economic and social development.

In recent years, Tongzhou district has attracted nearly 50 upstream and downstream enterprises – including Shennan Circuits, Jianghai Capacitator, SYtech and Unitech Electronics – to locate operations there. The result has been that it has formed a nascent industrial chain system integrating chip designs and testing, high-end printed circuit boards and semiconductor materials.

South Korea boasts a leading and global semiconductors industry. The cooperation and exchange event reportedly marked a great opportunity for Tongzhou district and Nantong city to optimize and upgrade their industrial development.

A road map for industrial investment in Tongzhou was also released at the event. Compiled by the Tongzhou district investment service center, the manual gave an introduction of the district's industrial ecosystem, to help travelling merchants and other interested parties gain a better understanding of its industrial position and spatial layout.
