The Jinsha sub-district in Tongzhou district – administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – has reportedly taken the initiative to carry out reforms on making government services more convenient and has become the first grass-roots sub-district to open cross-region government services in the metropolis.

At the end of May, the Jinsha sub-district service center signed an agreement on opening cross-region government services with the Yaohua sub-district service center in the Qixia district of Nanjing, capital city of the province.

The first service list includes five items, such as issuing social insurance participation payments certificates and birth registrations. The service centers located in the two regions have both set up special windows, to provide easily accessible government services for companies and the locals in the areas.

"We have had successful cases of cross-region handling of affairs during the past six months since the operations of this service began," said Yan Fangmei, director of the Jinsha sub-district service center.

One satisfied customer, who has her household registered in Jinsha sub-district and works and lives in Yaohua sub-district, applied for a certificate for a birth registration through the cross-region service in July. It took only four days for her to get the file, which she said both delighted and impressed her.

Jinsha sub-district service center director Yan Fangmei said that moving forward, they will collect more requests from customers and continue to expand the scope of cross-region government services.
