The launch ceremony for an important container-handling service in Fengshan Port terminal in Hai'an – a county-level city administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – was held on Sept 24.
The new service – called the SIPG ICT (Hai'an) project – is expected to achieve the highly efficient interconnection and sharing of logistics services between Hai'an and Shanghai.
Shanghai International Port (Group) Co Ltd, or SIPG, moved its port logistics services to Fengshan Port through the latter's inland container terminal, or ICT. Containers processed there will now have their information directly connected to the information management service platform of SIPG, to then be transported to Shanghai Port in a coordinated way by water.
The SPIG ICT service is expected to effectively enhance the operational efficiency of Fengshan Port and provide companies in Hai'an – and throughout the whole central Jiangsu area – with logistics support services at lower costs, higher efficiency and with simplified procedures.
Hai'an is known to have highly rated infrastructure in terms of its connections to the inland water and railway network in the Yangtze River Delta region. As such, it is providing strong support for the construction of a trade logistics base with road, railway and water transport in eastern Jiangsu province.
After the launch of the ICT project, the containers entering the ICT station in Hai'an are deemed to have entered Shanghai Port. This greatly reduces logistics costs for the manufacturing and foreign trading enterprises operating in central and northern Jiangsu, as well as improves logistics efficiency.
