The second phase of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) – a China-aid project contracted by Nantong Si Jian Construction Group Co Ltd – broke ground in Ho, the capital city of Volta Region in Ghana, on Sept 10.

With a planned project duration of 36 months, the second phase of UHAS includes the civil engineering, installation, decoration, and exterior components of four main buildings – two administration buildings, a teaching building, and a training building.

After completion, UHAS in Ho will boast the largest and most advanced college of nursing and midwifery in Africa.

Nana Akufo-Addo, president of Ghana, delivered a keynote speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, stating that Ghana thanked the Chinese government and people for their support, and placed a high value on Sino-Ghana friendship. The Chinese-aid project was of great significance to further enhancing the influence of UHAS in Africa.

According to Lu Kun, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, education and healthcare are closely related to people's public works. He said the Chinese government hoped the project would further increase the quality of education and medical services in Ghana.

Nantong Si Jian Construction Group, based in Tongzhou district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, is a large construction firm with various businesses. The construction team stated that it will work to guarantee smooth progress on the project while ensuring the safety of workers.
