The people of East China's Shanghai city now have an opportunity to appreciate both Chinese and foreign classical music and great waterprint woodcut works from Qidong city – located in East China's Jiangsu province – at an ongoing exhibition held in Shanghai's Yangpu district, which runs to Sept 23.

The combined exhibition promotes a new book by Qidong writer Mu Huo and also displays vibrant waterprint woodcuts created by Qidong artist Zhu Yan.

Using both texts and pictures, Mu's four-chapter book is a work that you can not only read but also listen to, with music enhancing the storyline. There are QR codes throughout, providing access to corresponding musical works.

The art of waterprint woodcuts is featured in the book. The 24 illustrations made by Zhu for the book are on full display at the exhibition.

"Qidong is a city near the sea and river with a tolerance for diversity. Classical music has spread there and been promoted thanks to a culture of inclusion and confidence," said professor Jiang Mingdun, former dean of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

Currently, Qidong is vigorously developing its all-for-one tourism – integrated tourism – with the goal of creating a top leisure tourism destination in the Yangtze River Delta. The exhibition will also be held in other YRD cities as an opportunity to promote the Qidong tourism brand, according to an organizer.
