Rudong county, a coastal area administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province, has achieved remarkable results in economic development in the past five years. It ranked 37th among China's top 100 counties in terms of basic economic competitiveness in 2020.

In the following five years, it aims to build itself into a pioneer area for the marine economy in Jiangsu and a national model area for green energy development.

On Yangguang Island in Yangkou Port, two 200,000-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas storage tanks located in the third expansion area of the Jiangsu LNG terminal are ready to begin operating.

In the next few years, Yangkou Port is expected to become the largest domestic LNG energy island integrating unloading, warehousing, gasification, bonded, tanker, and ship transshipment, with an annual natural gas export capacity of 32.5 million tons.

With a goal of "low emissions, low energy consumption, high technology content, and high added value", the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone will also focus on the emerging fibrous material industry and work to develop it into a characteristic industrial cluster with an output value of 100 billion yuan ($15.48 billion).

City-industry integration is another important focus of Rudong's development. It will continuously improve supporting facilities, optimize public services, and build blocks suitable for doing business and living, and explore and promote the construction of new intelligent communities.

A coastal ecological landscape belt is also currently under construction. Efforts will be made to promote the development of a resort featuring hot springs, rural tourism, and water entertainment. A slew of internet renowned tourist attractions represented by Bencha Ancient Town, a national 4A scenic spot, will make contributions to the development of the tourism industry in the county.
