Mao Hong, the second ro-ro ship built by the Haimen shipbuilding center of the China Merchants Industry Holdings Co in Nantong, was delivered to its owner in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, on Aug 18.

The vessel is capable of transporting 3,800 cars and is equipped with a high-voltage shore power system that helps reduce emissions. The installation of the system is in line with the country's goal of having carbon emissions peak by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2060.

"The system allows the vessel to directly use the electric power on the shore to save energy and reduce emission," explained Lin Hai, a senior executive of the Haimen shipbuilding center.

The ro-ro ship is a new type of vessel built by the center. The first vessel Tang Hong was delivered in March.
