"I planted a variety of pear trees, and the crunchy pear tasted the best. So I decided to specialize in planting the pear," said the 74-year-old Ma.
Crunchy pear, also known as liuyuexue, which can be translated to snow in June, is the first naturally matured honey pear in the year in China. It boasts a thin peel, crunchy and juicy flesh, as well as a small pit. A fruit can grow up to 900 grams.
Ma's pears have sold very well and its supply cannot meet the demand. He is planning to expand his orchard and to encourage more villagers to join his business to increase their incomes.
