It's a wonderful time just now at Huazhonghua Horticultural Ecological Park – located in Yazhou town in the county-level city of Hai'an, administered by Nantong, in East China's Jiangsu province – which has six greenhouses.

The hydrangeas, begonias, impatiens and other seasonal flowers planted in the greenhouses are now in full bloom.

"We introduced more than 70 categories of hydrangea three years ago. At present, there are 150,000 potted colorful hydrangeas in the park," said Pan Chuntao, one of those in charge of the operations.

"Several foreign businessmen come to buy our flowers every month, purchasing over 80,000 pots."

After a lot of market research, Pan found that only by combining a passion for flowers with tourism could they boost the sustainable development of the local flower economy.

The cultivating does not end as the flowering period stops. Integrating the local culture and tourism with the flower economy makes it one of the important ways to attract visitors to the park throughout the year.

In recent years, Hai'an has taken the initiative to readjust the structure of its agriculture and industry. In accordance with its geographical location and climate, the city has devoted a lot of work in developing its special flower planting industry, to expand channels for increasing local farmers' incomes.
