Construction of Haimen-Taicang cross-river pass to start in 2022
The result of the environmental impact assessment for the Haimen-Taicang cross-river pass was recently announced by the Department of Ecology and Environment of Jiangsu province.
According to the result, construction of the pass is expected to start in late 2022 and end in December 2028. The project will cost 43.4 billion yuan ($6.7 billion).
The pass will stretch 39.3 kilometers from Haimen district in Nantong to Taicang and Changshu in Suzhou, crossing the Yangtze River along the way. It will comprise 13 bridges with a combined length of 13.87 km and a 11.2 km-long tunnel.
The pass will have a six-lane, two-way expressway with a speed limit of 120 km per hour, and a high-speed railway with a designed speed of 200 km per hour.
There will also be a management center, a service area and two hazardous goods inspection stations along the route.
