The first musical road in Nantong city – located in East China's Jiangsu province – was opened to traffic on June 28, in Hezuo town in Qidong, a county-level city administered by Nantong.

A part of Hezuo town's ring road, the 456-meter-long road makes music when vehicles pass over it, through especially installed devices.

According to local officials, the friction between car tires and the engravings on the road generates a fixed musical melody.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, Qidong transport bureau decided to build a music road after discussions, brainstorming sessions and field visits.

In addition to being a special gift in celebration of the CPC's centenary, the road is also a part of Qidong's effort in the construction of "Four Good Rural Roads" – which lays out the goals of good construction, good management, good maintenance and good operations for the benefit of rural residents.
