According to a collective trademark registration notice released by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), the application of three collective trademarks by the chamber of commerce of home textiles in Tongzhou district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, were approved last month, with a term from May 14, 2021 to May 13, 2031, local media reported on June 8.

The approval of the collective trademark registration marked a breakthrough in brand building for Tongzhou's home textile industry.

A collective trademark is a trademark registered in the name of a group, association, or organization for the members of the organization to use in commercial activities to indicate the user's membership in the organization.

Sun Yan, secretary-general of Tongzhou's chamber of commerce of home textiles, explained that the trademark administration under CNIPA is strict in reviewing regional collective trademarks in that it represents a prominent industry of a certain place.

"Enterprises in the region all use the same trademark, which helps improve the visibility of regional products and expand market share," said Sun.
