E-commerce drives development of rural areas in Tongzhou

In recent years, the Tongzhou district of Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province has explored a new way to drive its rural revitalization forwards through e-commerce.
Home textiles, a main sector in Tongzhou, took the lead in trying out online sales in the district and reportedly achieved impressive results. At present, its Chuanjiang town – with flourishing home textiles industry at its heart – has over 120 express delivery outlets and an average daily delivery volume of more than 1 million parcels.
Being one of the first group of demonstration towns for rural e-commerce in Jiangsu province, Chuanjiang now has more than 20,000 residents engaged in e-commerce through websites, WeChat and livestreaming.
By virtue of the success of its home textiles e-commerce, Tongzhou district has promoted e-commerce to other towns and villages.
Nantong Hongke Household Co Ltd, a plastic storage box manufacturer based in Dongshe town in Tongzhou, has focused more efforts in the research and development of new products, as well as on online promotions in recent years due to the rapid development of e-commerce. Its daily sales have now topped 50,000 yuan on average.
Qu Feifei, who is in charge of Hongke Household, said that nowadays network links them with the businessmen from all over the world. Last year, the firm achieved annual sales of over 30 million yuan. Qu said that this year they will pay more attention to online sales, to expand revenue.
At present, Tongzhou district has developed an online marketing ecosystem focusing on home textiles products, agricultural products and fitness equipment. In 2020, the online sales of Tongzhou reached 17.27 billion yuan, up 16 percent on the previous year.
