Chen Yao, a paper-cutting artist from Rugao, has recently created a series of paper-cuttings to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

The 58-year-old was born in Baipu town, Rugao and started learning local paper-cutting techniques from his neighbor, an experienced craftsman surnamed Xu, at the age of 5.

He said that the works not only pay tribute to the Party and the country, but also tell stories of the Party's history.

He said he hoped that people can learn more about the Party's development while admiring the intangible cultural heritage item.

In traditional Chinese culture, it is believed that peaches can help prolong life. Because of this, peaches and peach-shaped steamed bread and cake are commonly eaten on elderly people's birthdays.
