The government of Haimen district, Nantong will begin working to bolster eight advantageous industrial chains this year, aiming to turn them into major drivers of the district's high-quality economic development, local media outlets reported.

The industrial chains will involve the circular economy, environmentally friendly architecture, high-end shipbuilding and marine engineering, industrial robots, modern home textiles, fine steel, life and health, and digital communications.

"These industries have a relatively solid foundation, led by industrial giants and major projects," said Yu Jun, director of the district's development and reform commission.

Prioritizing high-end technology, environmental protection, and innovation, the local government has drafted locations and development goals for each industrial chain.

For example, the high-end shipbuilding and marine engineering industrial chain will be based in the Haimen Economic Development Zone and the Haimen Port New Area. The chain will be led by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co, whose taxable sales revenue exceeded 6 billion yuan ($918.30 million) in 2020.

By 2025, the district aims to be home to 300 manufacturing companies earning more than 100 million yuan each in taxable sales, with the total output of the manufacturing sector valued at more than 200 billion yuan.

Another 30 high-tech companies, five smart plants, and two internet demonstration factories, all ranked at the provincial level or above, are also expected to begin operating in Haimen by 2025.
