The latest temporary site for COVID-19 vaccinations, which opened on March 28 at the sports center in Tongzhou district – in Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – can provide more than 3,000 doses per day, making it the biggest such facility there.

The facility is divided into five functional areas – a health inquiry area, an information registration area, a vaccination area, an observation area and an infirmary.

The vaccination team is made up of 40 medical workers from the district's Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital. All staff must undergo training and have licenses after passing their examination.

Equipped with first-aid facilities, drugs and personnel, the site is ready to cope with adverse reactions at any time. An ambulance is also stationed outside, on full-time standby.

Residents are required to wear masks and wait in queues. After health inquiries and information registration and other procedures, they proceed to the vaccination area to take their shots. Afterwards, they must remain in the observation area for 30 minutes until it is confirmed there is no adverse reaction.

"It's good to take vaccines free of charge," said Xing Yunxia, a local who got the jab. "To protect ourselves and others, everyone had better get vaccinated."

Senior officials said that progress was good after the opening of the facility.

"There were 779 people who got vaccinated on the first day. Currently, the vaccines are mainly provided for enterprises and institutions, with a large number of staff members after appointments," said Li Chunfang, vice president of the district's TCM hospital.

In addition to the latest vaccination site, there are currently another 21 such facilities in the district.
