Tongzhou district upgrades roads for rural revitalization
The Tongzhou district of Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province is reportedly on the move, pushing hard to upgrade its country roads as part of the region's rural revitalization program.
In response to the national strategy of rural revitalization, the district's transport bureau implemented a construction plan for rural roads and bridges after the Spring Festival – with the cooperation of townships within its jurisdiction – and the design work is reportedly underway now.
This year, Tongzhou will continuously upgrade roads in its rural areas. Some 15 kilometers of new roads and 16 bridges will be built, with a total investment of about 80 million yuan ($ 1.23 million).
In recent years, the district has focused on the construction of "Four Good Rural Roads", which lays out the necessity for good construction, good management, good maintenance and good operations to the benefit of rural residents.
There are currently more than 3,000 kilometers of roads and more than 1,000 bridges in Tongzhou's rural areas, some of which need immediate reconstruction to meet the new requirements for the development of the rural areas.
The construction plan for rural roads and bridges in Tongzhou reportedly involves Shigang, Liuqiao, Xiting, Shizong and other townships.
The design work is expected to be finished by the end of March, with construction starting in May and the project to be completed by the end of December.
