Tongzhou district – administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – has comprehensively implemented the Yangtze River Delta integration strategy since last year, focusing on improvements to the development scale and quality of high-tech businesses and in the process achieving notable results.

The proportion of high-tech companies is widely said to be a significant indicator reflecting the overall technological level of a regional economy.

Jiangsu Yongjin Metal Technology Co Ltd, located in the Nantong National High-tech Industrial Development Zone in Tongzhou, is one of the local companies to have done well in the improved business environment.

It was awarded first prize in the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Awards by the provincial government in January. That was in recognition for its project to industrialize the key technology behind ultra-wide and ultra-thin precision bright stainless steel belts, in which it cooperated with the Nanjing University of Science & Technology.

The project reportedly broke through key technical bottlenecks effecting the development of the stainless steel belts, invented technology and equipment to produce the precisely-crafted steel belts and went on to realize large-scale production.

Nantong Jianghai Energy Storage Technology Co Ltd, another company located in the zone, is a wholly-owned subsidiary founded by Nantong Jianghai Capacitor Co Ltd in 2015.

It has developed a complete industrial chain which covers electrodes, monomers, modules and systems. Its products are widely used in the fields of electric vehicles, rail transit, wind power generation and in smart homes.

Boasting a leading senior R&D team, Jianghai Energy Storage is another company that has flourished in Tongzhou.

It carries out industry-university-research cooperation with universities and colleges such as Nanjing University, the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Xi'an Jiaotong University and develops a number of high-tech projects.

A total of 152 industry-university-research projects were carried out in Tongzhou last year and 102 high-tech companies were recognized as national high-tech enterprises.
