A floating production, storage and offloading vessel for the petroleum industry and a 48,000 metric ton semi-submersible heavy lifting vessel, both built by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co in Haimen, Nantong caused something of a stir when they left dock on Feb 27 and 28, respectively.
The CMHI-220, the first FPSO that the Haimen shipyard has produced, is 333 meters long, 60 meters wide, 85.5 meters high and has a full-load displacement of more than 460,000 metric tons. It holds the record for the world's largest tonnage and oil storage capacity.
The vessel, capable of storing 2 million barrels of oil, is one of two FPSOs built for Monaco-based Single Buoy Moorings Inc.
Compared to traditional FPSOs, the vessel boasts more functions and is more adaptable. It is capable of operating in oil and gas fields in any ocean around the globe, with lower operational costs.

The heavy lifting vessel, ordered by Norwegian company Offshore Heavy Transport AS, is also the first of its kind that the Haimen shipbuilder has produced.
It is 216.3 meters long, 56 meters wide and is capable of lifting a maximum of 3,000 metric tons, boasting a maximum speed of 13.5 knots.
It comes equipped with a DP3 dynamic positioning system and has a large deck capable of loading 10 sets of 1,500-ton pile foundations.
