The human resources and social security bureau in Rudong – the county administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – held a ceremony on Feb 24 to welcome 16 migrant workers from Nanzheng district in Hanzhong city in Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
Rudong has established various joint programs with Nanzheng district since 2018 in various areas including labor exchanges, talent exchanges, skills training and information sharing. During the period, 128 migrant workers have gone to Rudong for employment and many of them have got married there, adopting Rudong as their second hometown.
On the premise of taking strict novel coronavirus epidemic prevention measures, Nanzheng's human resources and social security bureau arranged a chartered bus and specially assigned staff to transport the migrant workers to Rudong county, which took more than 30 hours.
Four of the 16 migrant workers had worked in Rudong before and returned home for the Spring Festival. The rest were newcomers who successfully secured a job through online platforms or were recommended by current employees of their new companies.
"I work in a large enterprise which provides good employee benefits and pays attention to migrant workers like me. It will also reward me if I come back to work after the Spring Festival holiday," said Huang Cuifen, 47, working at ZTT Group Co Ltd.
"Rudong is close to the sea, so I often have access to fresh seafood," Huang added.
Song Xin, a new migrant worker in Rudong, found that A-Zenith Home Furnishings Co Ltd was hiring carpenters through an online employment platform in the second half of last year.
"The company is good and the position is suitable for me. Everything is guaranteed through the labor contract. The monthly salary ranges from 6,000 to 10,000 yuan ($919-1,532)," he said.
When Song told his family he wanted to apply for the job, they were worried.
"I searched the company's information on the internet, called the company for verification and asked my fellow-townsmen who work in Rudong," Song said.
"I learned that the labor cooperation is organized by the local human resources and social security department, so I signed up without hesitation."
