Haimen modern agriculture made significant gains in last five years

Haimen district in Nantong has made significant achievements in developing its modern agriculture industry during the 13th Five-year Plan period (2016-2020), local media reported.

Over the past five years, the district has welcomed agricultural projects worth more than 15 billion yuan ($2.17 billion), including three key agriculture industrial parks and a number of ecological farms and agricultural sci-tech parks.

Two provincial-level demonstration bases for agricultural product exports were also built, with their export volume reaching $96 million.

The planting area of rice and wheat increased from 1,474 hectares and 4,542 hectares respectively by the end of 2015 to 5,903 hectares and 10,919 hectares by the end of 2019, with six high-quality grain and oil production centers being established.

The output value of vegetables reached 2.24 billion yuan, up 15.96 percent compared to during the 12th Five-year Plan period (2011-2015).

Medium and large scale pig raising accounted for 83.18 percent of the district's pig industry.

The development of the agriculture industry has been supported by advanced equipment, with 98.47 percent of grain production powered by machinery. The utilization rate of straw also reached 98.2 percent.

In addition, the district has rolled out its own agricultural brands such as Haimen Rice and Haimen Goat to enhance its reputation. To date, the district has 52 products with green food certificates, 10 with organic food certificates, and six with geographical indications.
