Datong village of Dayu town in Rudong county, Nantong is famous for its fruit, especially yellow peaches. It has over 53 hectares of land dedicated to yellow peach trees, which are now in full bloom.
The peaches have matured since early August, and now sport shapely figures and golden pulp.
Feng Jinhui, general Party branch secretary of Datong village, is happy about the late-blooming fruit in that it increases farmers' income. In the past, Datong village's farmers planted peaches that bloomed only in June and July. Thus, there were no benefits to farmers after August.
The village visited Zhejiang to learn about planting Jinxiu yellow peaches. "The Jinxiu yellow peaches in Zhejiang province bring high benefits to farmers," Feng said. "The soil in our village is similar to the soil in Zhejiang, so we introduced the peaches to our village."
Coming into season in August, the Jinxiu yellow peaches effectively link up with the earlier peaches and increase farmers' income.
Datong village cooperates with the county forestry and fruit station and invites experts to provide regular technical training for the orchardists, including on-site guidance on planting, fertilization, pruning and fruit hanging.
"Experts provide technical support," Feng said. "We apply biological control on the fruiting peaches without any pesticide."
According to Feng, the farmers will promote the successful planting experience and mobilize others to join them.
