Company-village pairing boosts rural development
More than six hectares of peaches have recently been harvested in Sannan village, Haimen district, Nantong.
"Thanks to the financial support from the local agricultural bureau and Suho Whole Foods, the village has built standard orchards covering an area totaling 26.7 hectares and sold agricultural products worth more than 20 million yuan ($2.9 million) through e-commerce platforms," said Gong Fei, the village's Party secretary.
It is part of a company-village pairing campaign that Haimen district launched in June, with government departments and local companies partnering with 231 administrative villages to boost rural development.
Officials said the key to the pairing is to give full play to companies' industrial advantages to satisfy villages' demand and achieve win-win cooperation.
For example, Haimen City Development Group Co has utilized its resources in the tourism industry to help its partner, Guangrong village, formulate travel routes and develop related products over an 81-hectare ecological park, promoting the village's flower industry and the integrated development of its agriculture and tourism.
In addition to boosting economic growth, companies have also worked to improve villagers' living environments.
ZhongXing Energy Equipment Co plans to spend 600,000 yuan to install 100 streetlamps in Zhongxing village, lighting up 80 percent of the roads.
"The company grew from a village-funded business, so we should shoulder our social responsibility," said Zhu Weifei, deputy manager of the company, which has also helped clean the local river course and arranged regular cultural performances in the village.
