The first phase of the Luneng Rudong H14# offshore wind power plant was linked to the grid in Rudong's sea area on July 27, marking that the 13 offshore wind power projects in Rudong to enter the commissioning stage.

With investment of 3.5 billion yuan ($500 million), the Luneng Rudong H14# offshore wind power plant is designed with a sea area of 32 square kilometers. Fifty 4-megawatt wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 200 mW are deployed in the plant.

Some supporting facilities include a 220-kilovolt offshore booster station, a 35-kV intra-field electrical circuit, 220-kV submarine cable and an onshore centralized control center.

"Luneng Rudong offshore wind power plant is the first full life cycle digital and intelligent offshore wind power plant in China," said Pei Bo, head of Rudong offshore wind power plant of Jiangsu Guangheng New Energy Co Ltd. "Its linking with the grid marks a solid step by Rudong toward high-quality and smart offshore wind power development."

After the project is put into full operation, the annual energy output will reach 560 million kWh. Compared with coal-fired power plants of the same scale, the wind power plants will reduce standard coal usage by 176,000 tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 466,000 tons, as well as save 1.6 million cubic meters of fresh water every year. These gains will promote the adjustment of the energy structure in Jiangsu province.
