A Party branch of Longxin Group, a Haimen-based construction company, was recently commended by the official Wechat account of the Agency for International Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce for its efforts to improve living standards for workers living abroad.

The group is currently building a new campus for the University of Cape Verde, which will be capable of accommodating 5,000 students and teachers.

The company won the bid in 2017, which has a contract value of 350 million yuan ($50.72 billion), making it the largest China-backed project in Cape Verde.

Over the past three years, the construction team's Party branch has endeavored to improve the living standards of more than 100 Chinese employees.

The Party branch has assigned workers to plant an array of Chinese vegetables. They have also raised pigs, chickens, and ducks, and made Chinese snacks such as baozi and steamed bread on holidays.

Employees' dormitories are well-equipped, and sporting facilities for ping pong and basketball are also available.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Party branch has not only helped implement strict virus control measures, but has also attached great importance to employees' mental health.

It has provided psychological counseling and organized online lectures about epidemic prevention and control in order to ease anxiety caused by the epidemic.
