Dawei village in Qidong, a county-level city in Nantong, Jiangsu province has witnessed great changes in recent years.

It has solved problems related to rural revitalization and promoted the construction of a beautiful countryside by developing agricultural projects, enriching cultural life and improving the environment.

Changes in industries

"Poverty alleviation must be supported by industries," said Gong Kena, a new official of Dawei village.

Gong decided to develop seedling nurseries to increase villagers' incomes. In 2014, the first nursery was built in Dawei village, which created 30 jobs.

In addition to the seedling industry, the village also developed other industries to help villagers shed poverty. In 2015, Internet Plus agriculture projects were launched. Now, 300 mu (20 hectares) of land has been earmarked for use in leisure agriculture.

Changes in cultural life

According to Gong Kena, engaging people of all ages in group activities not only creates a sense of unity, but also enriches their spiritual and cultural life, which further promotes cultural pride and a sense of belonging.

The village has now established six groups, including a village-level choir and a fan dance team. The number of regular participants has reached 200, accounting for a third of the village's permanent residents.

Changes in the environment

"Dawei village has 2,713 mu (181 hectares) of land, more than 40 percent of which is green area," said Gong.

In 2010, Dawei village started the construction of a beautiful countryside. Through comprehensive improvements, Dawei village has become a civilized village with clearer water, smoother roads and better lighting.
