Haimen's economy ranks 13th among China's top 100 counties
Haimen ranked 13th among China's top 100 counties in terms of economic development in 2020, according to a report recently released by the CCID Consulting and Outlook Weekly in Beijing.
It moved up two spots from 15th in 2019 and led the five county-level cities and counties in Nantong that made the list, which also include Rugao, Qidong, Hai'an, and Rudong.
The results were based on comprehensive evaluations of 1,897 counties across China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) in four areas - economic strength, development potential, overall wealth, and environmental protection.
In 2019, Haimen saw sustainable and stable economic growth. The regional GDP was 135.24 billion yuan ($19.06 billion), a year-on-year increase of 6.4 percent, while the public budget revenue was 7.1 billion yuan. Fixed-asset investment grew 7.4 percent year on year and imports and exports were valued at 19.42 billion yuan.
Total retail sales of consumer goods rose 6.1 percent to 42.37 billion yuan and per capita disposable income of residents grew 8.8 percent 40,949 yuan. The city also saw 304 days of good air quality last year.
