A medical team from Haimen People's Hospital arrived on Feb 9 in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province and the city hardest hit by the novel coronavirus outbreak in China.

The team members, including two doctors and four nurses, specialize in respiratory, infectious, and cardiovascular diseases, as well as in critical care.

"I received a notice at midnight that I would be sent to Wuhan and was ready by 7 am," said Fan Weixin, a chief nurse at the hospital's respiratory department.

Fan submitted an application to be sent to Hubei province on Jan 24. "As a medical worker and Party member, it is my duty to fight on the frontlines," she said.

Three teams of medical workers, including 57 specialists from Nantong's top hospitals, have been sent to Hubei since late January, according to local officials.

More medical staff will be dispatched to Xiaogan, another city in Hubei, following a national "increasing support for Hubei" policy, which requires 16 municipalities and provinces to aid cities in Hubei.
