Illuminated crosswalks developed by a Haimen-based technological company were recently installed on roads in Gumi and Sejong, South Korea.
The lines are made of specially-designed bricks that look ordinary in the day and automatically light up when night falls. The colors will change red or green in accordance with traffic lights.
The crosswalk was independently developed and is meant to improve road safety, according to Shen Biao, chairman of the company that developed them.
The crosswalk made its debut on a road in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, in late 2018 and has since been used in more than 20 cities in China, including Beijing, Nanjing, Chongqing, Wuhan, Tangshan, Nantong, and Suzhou.
Entrance into the South Korean market is a milestone for the crosswalk, as it represents its first market outside China, Shen said.
